Sultan’s mosque

One of the oldest mosques in BiH is the one located in Kraljeva Sutjeska. Its
building was ordered by a famous Turkish sultan Mehmed II El-Fatih, who was
directly inspired by the signs of Allah dž. š. and natural surrounding of the
Kraljeva Sutjeska valley.

According to historical facts, the mosque was built in 1463, in only three days,
after the fall of Bobovac, the capital of the medieval Bosnian kingdom. Ever
since then the mosque has been adorning the Kraljeva Sutjeska valley and
represents, in its own way, the jewel of Islamic arts and architecture in the
region.

All other values, including aesthetic, artistic, national and cultural were
confirmed when the mosque was proclaimed to be a national monument in BiH.

The mosque in Kraljeva Sutjeska, widely known as El-Fatih’s mosque, represents
the proof of religious, historical, national and cultural identity of Muslims,
not only in Kraljeva Sutjeska but in BiH as well.
