BUSOVAČA
Busovača is an old settlement located along the road which used to be a link
between Lašva valley, Kiseljak and Sarajevo. Kozica River, a tributary of Lašva
River rich in fish, flows through the town. Busovača Municipality has a pleasant
climate and attractive hunting grounds rich in wild game. The settlement dates
back to he Middle Age. Remnants of a road, a Roman Empire’s trading route, can
still be found in the area in the form of paved roads and road signs.

The name Busovača dates back to 1371. Busovača was part of then parish of
Lašva and kept close ties with Dubrovnik Republic and Venice. Iron ore
exploitation site was located near by. According to Evlija Ćelebija records,
Busovača had in the 18th century “more than 700 wooden-roof houses with gardens,
one inn (han) and several small shops (dućan)”. Coal mining activities in
Busovača ceased in the 19th century resulting in population decrease, which
continued during the Austro-Hungarian Empire.

Today, Busovača is a town whose inhabitants live mainly of agriculture and
trade, in addition of several industrial facilities producing construction and
heat isolation materials and wood processing industry. Busovača is a place where
one stops gladly and can meet humble and honest people. They say that the best
roast lamb can be found in Busovača.
